First of all, although sometimes disputed and rarely listed by people as an English monarch, Matilda or Empress Matilda was the daughter of Henry I and was a member of the House of Normandy. When Henry I died in 1135, the throne was seized by Matilda's cousin Stephen of Blois. After a long dispute Matilda was eventually made the de facto ruler for a short period from 7th April to 1st November 1141. A period of anarchy followed.

Secondly, came another disputed claim to the the throne this time by Jane, often referred to as the Nine Day Queen. She claimed the throne after Edward VI died. she was the great-granddaughter of Henry VII. She ruled from the 10-19 July 1553.

Next, came Mary I or Bloody Mary. She was the daughter of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. She was a devout Catholic and was highly unpopular for carrying out executions of protestants. She was Queen from 19th July 1553 to 1558.

Next, came perhaps the most famous Queen of all Elizabeth I the Virgin Queen. She was the daughter of Henry VII and Anne Boleyn. She took over from her half sister Mary. She was extremely successful in her reign during which the Spanish Armada was defeated. She ruled from 17th November 1558 to 1603.

Note the following ruled over the whole United Kingdom not just England.

Queen Anne was the daughter of James II and was part of the House of Stuarts. She led a relatively quiet reign from 8th March 1702 to 1st May 1707

Queen Victoria was the niece of William IV and was a member of the House of Hanover. She led a highly successful and eventful reign while leading the largest Empire on Earth. She is also to this day the longest serving monarch in both English and British history. She ruled from 20th June 1837 to 22nd January 1901.

Finally, came our current monarch Queen Elizabeth II. Daughter of George VI, and a member of the House of Windsor. She has also had a successful reign and is on set to exceed Victoria's long reign. She was crowned on 6th February 1952.
