There are fifteen epistles in the New Testamet, but they are often broken down into two categories: Pauline epistles and Non-Pauline. Pauline refer to the ten letters written by Paul of Tarsus while the Non-Pauline refer to the other five. The Letters of Paul include: Romans, First Corinthians, Second Corithians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, First Thessalonians, Second Thessalonians, First Timothy, Second Timothy, Titus, Philemon.

What is the name of the book of the New Testament written in the form of a letter from an apostle?

The New Testament is divided into: the four Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles or Letters, and the Revelation or Apocalypse. The letters are known by their Greek name of 'epistoli' or epistle in English, which simply means 'letter.' For example, the Epistle (or Letter) of St Paul to the Colossians. The New Testament contains 21 letters or epistles. It is generally accepted by most Christians that St Paul is the author of most, if not all of these epistles. The Epistles are: Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and Jude. These letters are referred to as "The Epistles" whereas the rest of the New Testament texts are referred to as "Books" such as the Book (or Gospel) of Mark, or the Book of Acts, or the Book of Revelation.

Who are the authors of each of the New Testament epistles?

There are twenty-one epistles or letters in the New Testament, including Hebrews. Of these, the only epistles for which the author is really known are the epistles of Paul.Paul wrote Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians and Philemon. Many scholars believe he also wrote 1 Thessalonians and Philippians.2 Thessalonians, Ephesians, Colossians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy and Titus are sometimes referred to as pseudo-Pauline epistles, as the majority of critical scholars believe that they were written by anonymous authors long after the time of Paul. In fact, 2 Thessalonians 2:2 implicitly tells the reader that forged Pauline letters had been circulating. Whether or not this was a genuine Pauline epistle, this statement certainly warns us that not all Paul's epistles were authentic. The Epistles of James, Peter, John and Jude were all written pseudonomously. 2 Peter actually includes the text of the Epistle of Jude! Jude, in turn, while intended to be read as if written by Jude in the first century, stands with its readers and refers to the apostles in the distant past.

In what passages do New Testament books call other New Testament books Scripture?

One passage that clearly does so: In 2 Peter 3:15 and 16, Peter refers to Paul's epistles in league with "the rest of the Scriptures." (KJV - "the other scriptures.")

What are epistiles?

From the Bible, they are basically letters that make up much of the New Testament. All of the apostle Paul's books are considered epistles, from Romans to Hebrews. James, 1 & 2 Peter, 1,2 & 3 John, and Jude are also considered epistles.
