In Canada many people think anything north or west of North Bay, Ontario is considered far north, remote hinterlands but I would suggest anything above the 60th parallel. That would include the Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut. Cultural groups include aboriginal groups, multi-generational Canadians, Germans, Chinese, French and Filipinos.
Before contact with Europeans they made most of their medicine from plants and animals. They traded with other Aboriginal groups and that trade would have certainly included items used as medicine but most would be sourced locally.
