From this policy many creditable things have come to us. Cultures appreciate what the government has done for them. Since Canada is country of immigrants this policy has helped a lot of people out. Sikhs are allowed to wear their kirpans without worries. Muslim women can wear hijabs and not face racial comments. Kids can talk about their traditions with friends without having to face any mean comments. People can walk down the road in traditional clothing and feel safe for who they are. Multiculturalism strengthens connections with other countries by accepting their immigrants into our society. It gives us a taste of what others have to offer. As people come together different ideas are shared and others can learn things from cultures that can help make the community better. Some of us don't realize it but many foods they eat, or clothes they wear or even games they play can belong to another culture. Pizza for example is a food loved around Canada but it was made by the Italians. Noodles are made by the Chinese along with rice.

Then you see how multiculturalism affects in negative ways. Since this policy allows you practice your culture people can go to excessive ways that harms the individual or society as a whole. An example would be honor killings. I hope you have heard of them but to refresh your memory these happen in Muslim cultures, if a female embarrasses the family in a way that might ruin their reputation such as adopting the western culture or not wearing the Hijab. In these situations the males will kill or break their bones. Other cultures think about themselves first (ethnocentrism) or think they are superior so they try teach their ways to other cultures in the form we know as assimilation. In more depth when the Europeans first came to Canada what did they try to do, assimilate the Indians to their way of life. My opinion is that history will repeat itself and even with this policy it is not enough. Even little kids are racist to their peers as they will discriminate them on the type of clothing or food they have. If some teenager brought something traditional to eat for lunch, his/her classmates will make fun of them because of who they are.
