There are four main species of Southern Pine - shortleaf, longleaf, loblolly, and slash.
Long Leaf Southern Pine is heavy, hard, strong and coarse grained. It is very durable when dry and well ventilated. It cannot be used in contact with the ground. It is used for heavy framing timbers and floors.
Short Leaf Southern Pine can vary greatly in quality but is used as a substitute for long leaf pine.
The southern yellow pine's weight varies between 32 lbs. per cubic foot and 38 lbs. per cubic foot. The weight of the treatment, if there is one, must be added on top of that, then must be adjusted for the size of the piece of wood.
Freshly treated Southern yellow pine treated with .60 CCA pcf will weigh 4.5-5 lbs per board foot.
It depends on the timber type. A typical range is 1,000,000 psi (6.9 GPa) for soft pine and cedar to 1,700,000 psi (11.7 GPa) for white oak and longleaf or shortleaf pine and Douglas fir.
some of them are oak, mahogany, walnut and i think maple. also some softwoods are pine, hemlock, fur, spruse, redwood and yellow cedar. :-D
Oak is generally thought of as a durable flooring. It is the most common wood floor in North America. The Janka Hardness Scale puts white oak at 1360 and red oak at 1290. In comparison, hard maple is a little higher at 1450 and southern yellow pine at 870. The construction of the floor will have a great deal to do with how this floor will wear. The under part of the floor ideally should be made of plywood and not HDF or MDF. Assuming this, oak engineered flooring is a durable choice for most homes.
