In regards to the media, it is largely their duty to make the government and big corporations who run them, and or fund their programs, look good while making their opponents either look bad, or only showing the negatives of something. This may not be true for ALL media sources but take Fox News for example.. they take sides..
If you're asking what the responsibility of the media is in regards to the people, I would say it's to inform them, and to keep them up to date on what is going on around the country and the world, WITHOUT saying what is right and what is wrong because their survey proves it.
This is my opinion and other people may disagree, if this isn't satisfactory, research it some.
