if you're speaking of the R32 it is a 3.2L 6 cylinder with 240 horsepower. If you're speaking of a regular golf it has a 2.0L 4 cylinder with 130 horsepower. If you're speaking of the GTI it is 1.8 turbocharged 4 cylinder with 160 horsepower.
on my 1.8 gti there was a rubber grommet on the passenger side just under the coolant bottle in the firewall.

The camshaft TDC mark is located on the camshaft side of the pulley wheel. When the mark is level with the front reinforcing strip on the camshaft cover the camshaft will be at TDC.
the fuse box on a mk2 golf gti or other is under the little plastic panel below the steering wheel. if you put your hand down and feel for a ledge where the dashboard ends and the plastic lower half starts then just pull the ledge and the fuse box will be in front of you
