CARAMEL COLORING side effects

Caramel Coloring has been a serious problem for me for at least thirty years. Even a small amount will cause me to have Asthma like symptoms about four hours after I have eaten something with caramel coloring as a minor ingredient, often listed near the end of the ingredients.

Caramel Coloring has only one purpose and that is to make the food look better. You will find it in a large assortment of prepared foods that may be frozen, in cans, boxed, or in wrappers. Even though it is brown in color it shows up in products that are tan, brown, black and red.

It took me years to discover it was a problem because it is so widespread in use and not something that is listed as a problem. Oddly in my effort to cntrol my asthma I read an article in Reader's Digest about the value of Vitamins and how B6 had been found to help people with asthma so I tried it and was surprised to find that it actually helped, especially if the asthma was from the Caramel Coloring.

Every so often I would miss seeing Caramel Coloring on the ingredient label or have something without such a label and be awakened by asthma like conditions and by taking B6 (by itself and not in combination) I would find that within 15 to 30 minutes my chest would relax and I would again be able to draw a deep breath and sleep soundly thereafter.

Just recently I read on the web that Caramel Coloring "acts as an antagonist to vitamin B6." That makes sense and answers why B6 helps me so much.

A few years ago I wrote of my concerns to the FDA but nothing happened. I wrote because I feel that I am not alone in how I react to B6 and worry about those that are not as able to analyze things in the way I am and believe it could actually be responsible for things like SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) on up and with the unexplained rise in asthma may be one of the culprits.

As far as me. I have been diagnosed as having Asthma by the National Jewish Asthma Hospital using a double blind test to certify my asthma as a requirement for a disablilty pension.

I believe Caramel Coloring should be banned but it is a very profitable product.

What is Caramel Coloring in?

Most red or brown or tan frozen products made by Stouffler's and other frozen foods. Foods thought to be naturally brown like meat loaf, meat balls, brown gravies, and those little grill marks on chicken are from Caramel Coloring in them.

Stouffler's stuffed peppers which are red also have Caramel Coloring in them.

Most Campell soups that are brown or tan have Caramel Coloring in them.

Most Chinese and Mexican food and those that comes in packages contain some Caramel Coloring.

Most brown soft drinks have large quantities of Caramel Coloring in them.

Almost all of the Ramen type soup mixes has Caramel Coloring in those little flavor pouches.

Black licorice often has Caramel Coloring as an ingredient.

Over anbd over I have personally confirmed to my own satiusfaction that Caramel Coloring was a problem tome most often becasue I ate something with it by mistake and was awakened by the asthma like symptoms and would go through the trash and find Caramel Coloring on the label or at times go tothe internet and find the ingredients on prepared food sold by MacDonalds, Arby's and the like.

The truth is no kid could possibly protect themselves from Caramel Coloring if they have a problem with it and could suffer for years without knowing and no doctor I know would do anything than follow the normal treatment for asthma.

I hope this is of help to the person that asked about the possible saide effects of Caramel Coloring and I hope someone of authority would take it off the market.
