Good customer service starts with these steps: First, identify what the customer wants. Do they want something to be changed? Do they want their money back? Do they want something to be cleaned? etc. Put yourself in their shoes. What would you want in this situation?


Second, let the customer know that you understand their problem. Tell them that you are going to do everything in your power to correct the problem. Never say that you can't do anything. The customer wants you to be on their side.


Third, tell the customer what your action plan is. Let them know what you are going to do. If you need to consult your manager for a refund, tell the customer that you need to tell your manager the issue. Do not just walk away.


Fourth, close out the problem. If you have done everything in your power to solve the problem, make sure the customer leaves happy. Tell them that these matters care to you, and you will do everything you can to make sure the issue won't happen again.


In short, staying positive, listening and understanding, and showing the customer that you care are good signs of customer service. A happy customer will likely tell 3 people about their good experience. An unhappy customer tells about 9-12 people about their experience.
