Mucor piriformis and Rhizophus stolonifer cause mold spoilage to late harvest strawberries referred to as the "leak disease" where the rotting strawberry has a wet appearance and ultimately collapses completely exuding juice. Yeasts are normal colonizers of strawberried however dispite the presence of a wide variety of yeast species spoilage by yeasts is rare.
