i have a 1984 bronco 2 and the ignition control mod went bad on it. It turned over but had no spark. The part was about 40 dollars and is located on the distributor. It takes a special tool to take it off. I changed mine and it started first try.
No electrial spark or fire at the plugs.

A bad ignition module is usually characterized by several frustrating symptoms. A classic example is when the engine will start, but when it gets hot, the ignition module's electrical properties change, cuasing the car to die suddenly, but restart after several minutes of cooling. Some people have reported pouring cold water on the ignition module causes it to start when hot (mearly by cooling rapidly). Another way to test for this is to allow the engine to run for a total of 30 minutes, then gently tap the module with the back of a screwdriver. If the car fails, this is usually the source. Sometimes the car will not start at all, but this should lead to checking the ignition coil first. This is usually characterized by no spark, no combustion, but good power (or weak power) into the ignition coil. This is usually checked first, as both are common problems, but the ignition coil is usually 1/3 the price (or less) of the (often very pricey) modules (especially for later models). Basically, check for spark, if you dont have any, keep going back until you have checked the ignition coil, distibutor, ignitor, module (in that order) and any grounds, resistors, capacitors, etc. Check all for power in, out, positive, negative, and power out. Use a test light, a voltmeter (multimeter) and get a book for your car from the auto parts store. Or take it to AutoZone- they can test modules using a computer for FREE.
did you changed your thermostat? You MUST keep around 195 degree thermostat in the vehicle at ALL TIMES due to the computer system. The ignition module usually gets hot due to corroded electrical connections at the ignition module and or the module is HEAT SENSITIVE and needs to be replaced. (plug wires) Ignition misfire can produce a variety of driveability symptoms including hard starting, rough idle, hesitation....
A bad condenser will cause the ignition points to spark more heavily, and burn out sooner. Also misfiring, bucking, and even stalling can occur as the spark may not be sufficient at the plug. The condenser helps reduce sparking at the contact points, and it also stores and provides extra energy for the next spark event, so a bad condener will reduce the strength of your overall ignition spark.
You need electronic equipment and know how to to diagnoise the ignition system of the new cars.
one of the following could signal ignition distribution failure>1)misfiring (2) power loss (3) persistent/forced starting (4) rattling/vibrating/shaking (5) gas rich exhaust fumes at exhaust end.Have a keen look at the wires/ignition coils.good luck
You will have and possibly no start. Remove the regulator vaccum, turn the ignition on and it shouldn't spray gasoline, if it does the regulator is bad.
Lots of noise or the belt jumping off.
There are 5 symptoms of ignition coil failure. They are: backfiring, starting problems, fuel economy is off (less millage per mile), engine misfiring, and vehicle stalling.
Missing and or poor fuel economy. If the plugs have over 75,000 miles on them, just replace them. The same symptoms will occur with defective spark plug wires.
If the battery is less than 2 years but doesn't seem to hold a charge
Bad idle, hesitation on acceleration, DEcreased performance and gas mileage.
Won't start and sometimes back fires when cranking.
I know this seems obvious but you didn' mention checking the ignition switch. Possibly the start contacts are ok but the run contacts are open. This will result in the symptoms you mention.
