Socially impaired people are not good at socializing -- this means they don't know how to communicate well with other people. Here are some things you may notice if someone is socially impaired:

  • they don't know how to act properly - poor etiquette and manner skills
  • they don't know how to "read" other people to see how they are feeling or how they are reacting to things the person has done
  • they don't know how to talk or carry on conversations with other people; they either talk about themselves all of the time, change the subject without any obvious reason, keep talking about something when everyone else has changed the subject, or reply to comments in odd ways as if they just don't know what people are talking about
  • they don't know how they appear to other people, so they do things like go out without bathing or cleaning themselves or dress inappropriately
  • they just don't seem to be able to connect with others -- they don't know how to make and keep friends, don't know how to start and keep conversations, don't know how to act around others, and don't have any hobbies or interests the way most people do
