When it breaks, your car just dies! This happened to me.... I was driving along the street, and all of a sudden, it was as if someone had just turned off the engine. No power. I had to coast to the side of the road. That was it - I had to have the car towed to a mechanic. It's an all-or-nothing thing when the alternator belt goes. I don't think there are any symptoms before it just completely breaks. But, you could take your car to a mechanic, who can inspect the belt to make sure it looks ok, if you're concerned. There are other belts in cars, though, that can give warning symptoms when they're on the way to breaking. You can get a repetitive, high-pitched sound like you'd expect an almost-broken belt to make when it goes around and around something. Good luck!
Two reasons why your alternator belt is breaking is: Your alternator belt is too tight, or you are using a belt that is old and worn. I cannot answer your question fully without seeing the vehicle. Sorry.
Reasons: Cheap Belt Too tight
alternator drive belt?
Loosen the alternator tensioner bolt. The alternator belt will become loose. Remove the alternator belt. Put the new alternator belt on and reverse the process.
Something is out of line. Check alternator, a/c pump, idler and tensioner. I've had 3 Taurus and never a single broken belt.
Yes, I know of no engine where the alternator is driven by the cam belt. The alternator is driven by a drive belt or serpentine belt.
check how easily your alternator spins. it should turn pretty freely also make sure youre using the proper size belt and not under/overtightening it
If the alternator belt is the same belt as the other accessories, yes.
Begin by removing the alternator tensioner bolt. Slide the alternator to the left. Remove the alternator belt. Reverse the process to install the new alternator belt.
The alternator belt on a 1994 Eclipse is replaced by loosening the alternator bolts, moving the alternator downward, and slipping the belt off. A new belt is then routed around the other accessories, placed on the alternator, and the bolts tightened.
BeltsYes, you must remove all of the belts to replace the alternator belt. The compressor belt first, then the power steering belt then the alternator belt.
