I called Auto Zone and asked this question and he said it was supposed to be 6 degrees before TDC (top dead center). I would call Auto Zone or your local parts store just to verify but that is what I was just told. :)

On a 2003 Mazda Protege it must be changed at 105,000 miles. This is an interference engine and as such if the belt breaks serious engine damage will occur.
