This is to help you remember which station you are watching, in case you are ever asked to fill out a ratings survey. Other than that, I don't know which other kinds of numbers you are asking about, unless it is a station that scrolls the results of Stock Market reports for that day-- CNBC, a business channel on cable, does this.
