What are the traits of a calico cat?

There isn't a regular size for Calico because calico is actually a color pattern for cats and not a breed. There are multiple cat breeds that offer a calico color pattern. However, most calico cats are female and females tend to be smaller than males.

Where do calico cats live?

Calico cats come from many generations of different breeds of cat, as Calico is a certain colour, not a type of cat.

Can any color cat be a calico cat or is there certain colors?

A calico cat is a cat that is white, orange, and black. "Calico" is the term that describes a cat with these colours; it is not a breed name. Cats with the calico colouring can be many different breeds.

Are calico cats common?

No, they are not always inbreed they are like every other living cat. --- Calico cats are simply the result of a ginger or tortoiseshell cat and a black or tortoiseshell cat. The only similarities is that both cats must have some white.

Are long haired calico cats rare?

Calico is a color pattern of the cat that involves mottled orange, black/gray, and white--not to be confused to with tortoiseshells, which have considerably less, if any, white. They are almost invariably female. Breeds and the length of their fur have nothing to do with calico markings.

Do male calico cats have a short expected life span?

Calico fur coloring can't be found in males, tortiseshell maybe. But regardless, Calicos usually have shorter lifespans (mine made it 7 years, RIP.)

Can a tom cat have three pelt colors?

Absolutely! The gender of a cat has nothing to do with the coloring. Cats can be different colors and designs based on their breeds. Foe example, tabbies tend to have brown, black, orange, and silver stripes and can have more than one color. Tabbies are about 50/50 on female and male. Calico and tortiseshell cats tend to have brown, white, black, cream, and orange splotches all over them. Calicos tend to have a very high presentage of females and a very low percentage of males. (Note: Tabbies and Calicos are NOT cat breeds. They are types of fur patterns that occur on certain breeds of cats. For example, American/Domestic Shorthairs can be tabby or calico, but Siamese will never have tabby or calico patterns. They will only have pointed areas with solid colors.)

What is a cat's looks?

It depends on the cat. A cat with calico coloring has different colors like brown, black, orange, and white. Siamese cats are slender and black. Then there are some cats cats that are just one solid color.

Do all Calico Cats have six toes?

No, not all calico cats have six toes

Can cats make you sterile?

There are calico cats, but they are rare and usually infertile. Calico coloring on a cat is caused by a "orange" gene on one X chromosome and a "black/white" gene on another X chromosome - hence, two X chromosomes are needed for a calico cat, which makes it female. Rarely, cats can receive two X chromosomes and a Y (XXY), giving it calico coloring but a male gender.

Are all calico cats short hair?

The term Calico describes a certain coat pattern, and not a specific breed of cat. This pattern can be found on both short haired and long haired cats. Many breeds of cat produce the calico coat colour - with some being exclusively short or long haired. The Calico pattern is particularly common in mixed breed cats (moggies) due to the varied gene pools, and is found on both hair lengths.

How many kittens can a calico cat have?

Cats can be so many different colors that it is hard to list. There are gray cats, black cats, white cats, brown cats, golden cats, cream-colored cats, rose-colored cats, and even blue cats! Then there are the cats that have mixtures, like the stripped tabby, the patched calico, or the torbie, a mixture of both. Different breeds of cats can have even stranger patterns. For example, the Siamese and Himalayan breeds tend to be a cream color with darker patches on their face, ears, paws, and tail.
