Many companies have procedures for appealing dismissal. The personnel department normally handles such cases initially. In the United Kingdom, if a company does not have established procedures a person may seek free advice from any Citzens' Advice Bureau.

If a person feels they have been treated unfairly, they can address the issue by first gathering evidence to support their claim, then discussing the matter directly with the individuals involved or escalating it to a higher authority if necessary. Seeking guidance from a neutral third party or a mediator can also help in resolving disputes in a fair manner.

There must be a sound legal reason to file an appeal with the appeals court. Simply 'feeling' that their trial was "unfair" is not a criteria for review by the Appeals Court.

Furthermore, the trial court must generally be goven a chance to cure any mistake that it made in ruling on evidentiary matters and other aspects of the conduct of trial. This is generally handled by means of a motion for a new trial. Important in that respect is the fact the such a motion must generally be filed within a short time after the conclusion of the trial and rendition of verdict (such as, 10 days).

An "appeal" is a request to the next higher level of court. Essentially, it requires a showing that the trial court either applied the incorrect law to the facts, or applied the correct law improperly. In no event is it a forum for a re-weighing of facts (evidence)-that is the function of the trial court.
