I can only comment on my own 1984 240dl. If the points are faulty this can cause this, or if the gap is too small or large between them. I would remove the distributor cap and get someone to turn the engine over. If there's a spark at the points this suggests the distributor cap is faulty or maybe the ht leads but I'd be surprised if all of them are faulty. If the points look ok and the gap is correct I would check the condenser and also further back at the coil. Try going back and looking at the distibutor cap. It it where the spark is generated. Make sure you have the plugs connected in the engines firing order.
the 02 senser is on the manifold by the firewall on the passenger side under the hood [ behind and undr the spark plugs]
You will need 12 bocsh spark plugs. These engines have 2 spark plugs per cylinder.

The 1989 Volvo was offered in the model 244 with a 2.3L L4. The gap for this application depends on the spark model and electrode material. Iridium and platinum plugs for the application come pre-gapped from the factory.

well compare them after you take them out becaue sometimes they have different connections and if they do then you have to switch the plugs to make them fit.
Gap to plug not the car, .0028-.0045"?
Most of the Volvo 240's FM 1983 -1991 use .028.....but just call any auto parts store and they will be glad to help.........
The style of plug is a 9004. I just replaced one in my 91 Volvo 240. The connector was about 5 bucks at the parts store. Make sure you splice the red black and blue wires in correctly!
