How do you remove the alternator on a 1990 Honda Civic LX 4 door without removing major parts of engine?

I have a 1990 Honda civic 3 door hatchback what a nightmare to get a alternator out: should take about an hour. Heres the trick:Disconnect the pos. terminal on the battery then theres 2 bolts on the alternator. disconnect the top one then the bottom one. unplug the green plug should pull out easily. then use a 10mm socket then disconnect the other wire should have a plug over the screw. then disconnect plastic piece holding the wires for the alternator. then turn wheel towards the left like you would make a left turn. then take out plastic that's around the alternator belt plus remove alternator belt. remove bottom bolt with skinny screwdriver and hammer litely tap out from inside drivers wheel should be easily visible. then grab crowbar and pry out alternator from mounting bracket. then remove mounting bracket its a 14mm socket theres 2 bolts. alternator should be able to move around freely inside engine compartment. now heres the fun part and quite easy like a puzzle move alternator towards the hole towards the drivers side wheel and remove through there should come out easy. Congrats you have the old alternator out now reverse and put new alternator in.

How do you tighten alternator belt for 1996 accord?

There is a tensioner bolt that is connected to the alternator. You have to screw in the bolt, which will pull the alternator out and tighten the belt.

How do you change alternator belt on 2001 galant?

On a 4 cyl. you loosen the bolt that holds the adjuster to the alternator and then loosen the adjusting screw. You may need to hold pressure on the alternator to help it move or also loosen the bottom mount bolt of the alternator to the engine to allow the alternator to move easily. On a v6 you loosen the center nut on the adjuster pulley and then loosen the adjuster screw. Remove the old belt and install the new one. adjust the pulley to tighten the belt and tighten the pulley or tensioner. Belt is now installed.

1994 Legacy which is making a whining noise and a if you lift the bonnet there is a burning hot metal kind of smell around the power steering alternator?

It could be a bearing in your alternator that has gone out. Start your car and do whatever it takes to reproduce the sound. When the vehicle is making the sound, put a screw driver against your alternator and put your ear against the other side of the screw driver. If you hear the whining noice clearly through the screw driver, it's probly the alternator. Move the screw driver around the area and see if the noise that is passed through the screw driver is louder anywhere else, besides the alternator. If not, it's coming from your alternator. You can use a long screw driver or any solid piece of material, but the handle of a screw driver is a little more comfortable against your ear than other options.

Is a coil a simple machine screw?

How do you replace the alternator belt on a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo?

There's a tensioner (screw) located underneath the alternator. Loosen the alternator bracket screw, then feel underneath the alternator to locate the tensioner screw. It's several inches long. That's about the most half assed answer ever. There is way more involved due to the fact that the alternator belt is on the the first pulley off the cam. You have to unhook the two belts in front of it to get it on. Then you have to put the a/c belt and timing belt back on.
