Since the alternative is to replace the IAC, you may as well attempt to clean it. There are warnings for what time of cleaner to use but WD-40 works well for me. Remove the IAC by disconnecting the electrical connector and then the 2 screws which secure the IAC to the intake manifold. Turn it over to reveal the valve which is electronically actuated. You'll probably note it is black with carbon. Spray the inside with the cleaner multiple times. Use a small screwdriver or something to work the piston back and forth somewhat. Just a little movement is all that's needed. More cleaner. Slosh, repeat. Shake it out and install in reverse order of removal. Crank it up. If better, great. If not, replace IAC.
