The Turkoman horse isn't exactly extinct at all, the fact that the breed is thought to no longer have it's pure form like it once did. But there are still horses out there still called the Turkoman horse.
The turkoman breed of horse, which was noted for it's endurance, is sadly now extinct :( The akhal-teke horse is a modern descendant.
They are two separate breeds. The Akhal-Teke is a decendant of the Turkoman Horse.
While the Turcoman Horse died out as a breed, it is the progenitor of thoroughbred racing horses. They died out because of inbreeding and became extinct as a breed in the early 18th century.

The Akhal-Teke (also called a Turk, or Turkoman/Turkomen) played a large part in the developement of the English Thoroughbred also.

Palomino is a color, not a breed. Therefore the palomino color came about whenever the cream gene mutated and occured in horses. When this occured is still not 100% known. It is known however that the Turkoman (Akhal-Teke) horse carried the cream gene, thus enabling palomino colored foals to be born and that breed has been in existance for over 3013 years.
