Can be a symptom of a blown head gasket. If so, this is very serious, so do not ignore it. Serious engine damage will occur if it indeed has a blown gasket.
no heat in 96 ford taraus, new thermostat, has coolant in it
Sounds like you are getting coolant into a cylinder , is your coolant level dropping ? Could be a bad head gasket , warped or cracked head
The coolant capacity of the Ford Ranger is dependent on model year and engine type. The latest model year of the Ford Ranger was 2011. The 2011 Ranger with the 4. 0L V6 and the automatic transmission had a coolant service fill of 13. 2 quarts.
The 1998 Ford Ranger Owner Guide shows Ford Extended Life Engine Coolant ( Dexcool )
Which engine do you have?
what type of radiator fluid does a 2000 ford ranger take?
It uses regular green coolent
Sounds like your thermostat is sticking open which causes your engine to runcooler ( and use more gas )
You drain coolant from the radiator. but according to the book ther are two plugs on the engine block that need to drain the coolant from.
it goes into your radiator, and then through your cooling system
yes yes
You should use a gallon of coolant.
If there are no schrader valves to bleed the system, remove the radiator cap, make sure the radiator is full of coolant, turn the heater controls to HOT, start the engine, watch for air bubbles escaping, keep the radiator full, and when you see no more air bubbles escaping, replace the cap. The system is now bled.
I don't think it is coolant. It is just condensation caused from high humidity and the cold air. If it is coolant it should get on the floor and you should loose coolant.
Driving it into water
On a 2003 Ford Ranger : The 2.3 litre four cylinder engine has a thread on cap on the engine coolant reservoir , that is the pressure cap / radiator cap ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the 3.0 and 4.0 litre V6 engines , I believe there is a radiator cap on the top of the radiator , but with the engine cool you should add engine coolant to the engine coolant reservoir - it has a cold fill mark
The 2000 Ford Ranger was equipped with two different 3.0L 6-cylinder options between codes 'U' and 'V' (Flex-Fuel). Both engines have a coolant service fill of 14.8 quarts.
open the hood and look for it
Check coolant level Could be alternator going bad Could be coolant fan going bad
From Haynes Manual #36071, 1993-2005 Ford Ranger Pick-ups: Recommended coolant type: 50/50 mixture of Motorcraft Premium Engine Coolant (green colored) or Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant (yellow colored), or equivalent. The manual does not specify a particular color for a particular model Ranger. You might want to check the label under the hood to see if there is a preference for your vehicle. There are 50/50 mixtures on the market that will mix with either color.
I BELIEVE that is called the ( engine coolant thermostat / water outlet assembly )
The coolant level is checked at the coolant tank in the passenger front corner of the engine compartment . The coolant level should be up to the cold mark when the engine is cold . The radiator should be full so its covering the top plate .
Check coolant level
You may have a cracked head or a bad head gasket.
The 2003 Ford Ranger Owner Guide only shows ( 1 ) type of engine coolant ( YELLOW color , meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B51-A1 ) * but it also shows to use the type of engine coolant your vehicle was originally equipped with
