I'm having the same issue, I have a 2000 Audi a6, I have read that it is an upper control arm.
It could be the bearings on your front driver side wheel.
It CAN be CV joints, but it depends on the sound.
CV joints need to be replaced
wouldn't it be where it normally is on all other vehicles? inside, driver's side, either by the clutch, if standard, or to the front and left of your left foot? really?
On a 1998 2.8 Quattro it's located under the car in front of the right rear wheel
Apparently it is the rear air "blender" ( whatever that is(?)) My 2003 Explorer was making the loud clicking sound from the rear driver side above the rear left wheel. I lived with it for a month before I just found the answer on the net. I turned off the rear fan control (from the front controls) and the clicking has stopped. I guess there is no more air from the rear now but the clicking has stopped- Car is long been paid off and I'm happy again.
I have a 99 A6 quattro and have changed the brakes out on it multiple times. email me if you need to know anything. Doster@marshall.edu
Could be your brake pads shifting in the calipers which is normal in some cars. You should have your brakes looked at just to be safe.
go through the trunk
If it is a front wheel drive it is most likely the driveshaft. Otherwise look to see if the spring is bottoming out
If the 1996 Olds Aurora will not start and there is a clicking noise from under the front panel, check the starter. The clicking noise is probably from the starter solenoid.
