The spotting is always cause for concern. Get in to see the doctor any time you have spotting while you're pregnant. Pain in the lower abdomen can be serious but it can also be pulling ligaments. Again, see your doctor if you have any questions.

Kidney
I experienced this same thing. I started spotting a little here and there and then it became a more constant thing and sometimes it was red and sometimes it was a darker brown. I was concerned so i was planning to go to the doctor but that same night i started have excruciating pains in my abdomen and lower back and ended up going to the hospital where they told me i had a miscarriage. Blood doesn't mean miscarriage but you should definitely go and get checked out just to make sure everything is ok with the pregnancy so you wont have to go through what I went through.
Kidney infection. Painful urination, cloudy urine, pain around waistline, blood in urine. Definitely a kidney infection.
