Competition between animals in the savannah is triggered by many things. The different climatic changes keep affecting the resources available for the animals and this is a major cause for the competition.
There is a variety of reasons animals compete with each other. Some of which are the necessity of land, or territory, the claims each may have prey they consider part of their territory. There are probably more, but those are some basic factors.
