I would check the actual "release handle" that you use to open the door. There is a rod that attaches to a stub on the handle. I have seen quite a few of these stubs break off. Removal should be easy to perform this inspection. I think I remember it costing me under 20 bucks for a new OEM part
You will have to remove the entire door panel to get at the screws that hold the handle assembly to the panel.

You need to remove the door trim. It's probably the connecting rod which needs to be replaced, which isn't uncommon on a GM truck.

The fuel filter is uder the driverside door outside of the truck. Underneath the truck you will see the frame ( C-beams) of the truck. Its on the inside of the driverside C-beam.

The weight of the truck is on the driver side on the inside of the door jamb.Simply open your door and look down to the right.This will have the weight of the truck on a printed laminated sticker.
They are bolted from the inside of the door.
Remove the small panel from inside the door, or the whole door panel, unbolts from the inside.
Look on the inside of the door there is a small sticker that will have the truck weight!
