Bad water conditions cause fungus and many other ailments in fish. If you observe the basic rules which follow you should never have fungus problems.The basic rules for successfull fish keeping are :- 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water (a Betta needs at least 3 gallons) :- Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank need to have at least 50% of its water replaced every week. If you follow the above rules your fish stand a chance of living a reasonable life span. If you fail in any of them I can guarantee that you will have constant recurring heath problems with your fish.
