I have an 03 T&C that had rusted brake pads on the rear that caused a rear end rattle.
If it is a cruching, squeeky kind of sound you most likely need your rear struts lubed. Minor and inexpensive.
possible missing anti rattle clip on brakes....had same concern on 02 front brakes
The rubber bushing for the suspension spring has fallen off from age. The suspension spring now "slaps" itself, metal to metal, causing the noise.
A rattle in the rear on the Protege after new strut mounts and sway bars were put in might be due to the fact that the bolts are not tight enough. Bolts that are not tight enough will allow the ball joint to hop. This is very dangerous.
Possibly a broken shock or bad stabilizer bushings
Could be many things.. faulty swaybar endlink faulty/loose exhaust hanger/bracket loose catalytic converter heat shield bad shock/mount
If its a ka thunk sound even on small bumps,Its most likely your STRUT MOUNTS.
I only know from experience that it is the rear sway bar, it took me forever to figure it out but that is what is wrong. The rubber O ring foes bead and it is then metal on metal that you hear when you go over the bump!!
If your vehicle is squeaking when it goes over bumps, you may need new shocks or struts. The front end of the car wears more quickly than the rear, so the issue usually begins in the front.
The rattle could be caused by loose bolts or worn suspension parts. The rear suspension should be checked to insure that no parts are close to breaking.
Defective rear shocks. Loose exhaust components.
