What type of combustion engine would you classify steam turbines used in power plants?

Steam turbines are external combustion engines.

Will Rubbing Alcohol cause damage to your car engine?

A small amount of rubbing alcohol mixed with gas should not hurt your cars engine. The alcohol will burn with no problems.

A device that converts thermal energy into mechanical energy is a?

This is a heat engine, they come in various types such as internal combustion, external combustion, steam turbines, gas turbines, etc.

What causes engine failure?

There are four causes of the engine failure. The four causes of the engine failure includes engine overheating, lubrication problems, misassembly , and detonation.

What causes a ticking noise after the car first starts then goes away?

The engine parts are rubbing until the engine oil pressure builds up and the oil starts to lube the parts. Old oil, wrong viscosity, or a clogged filter can cause this to be worse than necessary.

What has the steam engine evolved into today?

It has evolved into steam turbines etc... which are still used to generate power.

How can you change thermal energy into kinetic energy?

heat engine: steam, internal combustion, turbines, etc

What causes a jet engine to ignite?

A Jet engine contains a series of turbines that accelerate the air that enters the engine. As the air is accelerated it is compressed to a higher density at which point the fuel is able to begin combustion at ambient temperatures. As the engine warms it becomes more efficient as the fuel is pee heated and the compressor is able to spool faster. At higher altitudes the engine becomes more efficient as the initial air density is lowered causing less resistance on the turbines to accelerate the air, thus allowing a higher spool rate with less fuel. Jet engines are very inefficient at sea level when compared to their efficiency at cruising altitudes.

Are turbines more efficient than gasoline engines?

By a generous estimate, they can be about 30% more efficient than a gasoline engine. I assume you mean "are turbines more efficient than piston engines". Depends on the running conditions. At full load, steady running conditions, turbines are better than piston Engines. At varying loads, turbines often do quite poorly.

Can you put rubbing alcohol in a diesel engine?

Ya its possible to blend rubbing alcohol with diesel by 25%.It give good performance and reduction in NOx emission.....

Why do wind turbines only have three arms and not many as in say a jet engine turbine Also why can't they be horizontal like the wind speed generators at airfields?

Yes, There are wind turbines with more than three blades... Basically that would only apply for the turbines which are not commercial like the turbines which are installed at home etc. and there are also wind turbines with horizontal axis, and again that would not apply to commercial wind farm. Usually Wind Turbines are BIG in size and mostly used to Generate Commercial Electricity so installing a Turbine with more than 3 turbines is not a viable thing.
