Check the coolant level in the reservoir, it may be empty.

If it is installed incorrectly and causes the starter to be engaged continuously/always running it would kill the starter fairly quickly.
Could be low coolant, stuck thermostat, bad heater control head (if climate control)
too much anti freeze, bad or no thermostat.

the lights are out on my dash, climate control and radio buttons, but are ok (but very dim) on the odometer and radio clock/display. it's like someone turned the dimmer all the way down. could the dimmer be bad? all my interior lights and automatic headlights work.
