I looked this up and found that William Penn had an ad for settlers. His ad stated that a settler could get 5,000 acres for 100 pounds or rent 200 acres of farm land for a penny an acre. In 1734 Colonial Cosby of NY colony bought 100,000 acres from the Natives of the area. Kings Quit Rent was applied at 1 shilling and 9 pence farthing per 100 acres.
