What colors are Percheron?

Percheron's draft horses come in 3 colors, and 2 modifiers. Their 3 basic colors are Black, Bay, and Chestnut. Black is the most common color of Percheron in the United States and Canada. Bay is extremely rare and only exists in less than 25 horses in the United States. It has been eradicated from the breed in France. Because of that it is unlikely there are any located in South Africa, or Australia. Chestnut pop's up every now and then and can be found in the United States, Canada, and Australia. It is an unaccepted color in the U.K. and France and any horse born as such is not allowed registration. Unknown if any exist in Africa because of the previous sentence.

Then there are two modifiers, one being Grey, the other being Roan. Grey on Black is the other most common "color" for the Percheron breed. It is the 2nd highest registered color in the United States and Canada. It is the number one highest color in the U.K., South Africa, France, and Australia.

Roan, like Bay, is also extremely rare. It is estimated that fewer than 60 horses remain in the breed in the United States and Canada combined. At this time only Blue Roan (Roan on Black) exists. Bay Roan has occurred but at this time there are no horses with such a color registered or recorded.
