The fur of sugar gliders is bluish-grey, although individuals may have more tan tones. They have a black stripe which goes from their nose, over their head, to their back, and the tip of their tail is black also. Their underbelly tends to be a pale cream colour. There can also be albino sugar gliders.

The fur of native sugar gliders (i.e. in their natural state) is bluish-grey, although individuals may have more tan tones. They have a black stripe which goes from their nose, over their head, to their back, and the tip of their tail is black also. Their underbelly tends to be a pale cream colour. There can also be albino sugar gliders.

Because sugar gliders have been introduced as exotic pets overseas (they may not be kept as pets in Australia, and quite rightly so) there are now variations in these mutated species. These include all white sugar gliders with black eyes, known as leus; whitefaces, which have a white face; lions, which are a slightly different color from the standard gray; and mosaics, which are a variation on the whites.

I have heard it said that sugar gliders can only see shades of reds, but I have seen no evidence of this in my own sugar gliders.

I put a variety of colors in their cages and have not noticed them being attracted to one item any more than the others.

The nose itself is pink. Just behind the nose is a band of gray fur.

Can a sugar glider and a ferret play together?

I would not encourage them to play together. Ferrets see small animals as prey and may attack the sugar gliders. Even if the ferret does not see the sugar glider as prey ferrets play roughly. They like to wrestle and nip as they play and may accidentally hurt the sugar glider.
