A makefile is essentially a script that is used by the make utility to build your executable. In other words, they provide the means by which compilation can be automated, reducing typically complex compiler and linker commands to a relatively simple make command. The makefile is just a plain-text file that contains one or more targets along with their dependencies and/or command lines. For additional help, consult the make utility documentation.
batch files are used to make long tasks shorter. for example, If I wanted to change the file extension of every file in the folder EXAMPLEFOLDER from .txt to .doc, I could make a batch file that did that instantly, rather than going into the properties of every file and changing the extension manually

You use the 'yank' and 'put' commands. You 'yank' the lines into a buffer (named a - z) and then go to the place where you want to paste or duplicate them, and use the 'put' command to insert them. You can also read entire files or portions of files with the 'r' command to paste contents into other files.
