"Pax Romana" is Latin for "Roman peace," and the term refers to a period of time of no war and widespread prosperity throughout the Roman Empire. One thing that was essential to the Pax Romana was the establishment of a uniform legal code throughout the empire. This made it easier to follow and enforce laws.

Augustus's Creation of absolute rule by emperors was the main reason for the Pax Romana.

Augustus was the final victor of the civil wars which led to the fall of the Roman Republic. He ended the chaos and the dysfunctionality of the Roman government of the Late Republic. The Republican government had lost control over the governors of the provinces. The emperor was firmly in control of the state through a new imperial bureaucracy. The senate was turned into an instrument for the emperor's rule. Control over the provinces was established and there was little room for infighting. The empire enjoyed 207 years of relative political stability. This helped with the integration of the provinces into the imperial system and the development of thriving trading networks around the empire and beyond. The provinces sold each other goods and goods were also imported goods from Arabia, Ethiopia, Persia, India and China.
