A vehicle with black smoke from the exhaust is either running too rich ( fuel air mixture is incorrect ) or burning oil or oil getting into the combustion chamber. If oil, check and/or renew oil rings . If your vehicle is older and you keep having to add oil it is probably the latter.
But burning oil normally creates blue smoke while un-burnt fuel would be black.
If your vehicle is running too rich check your O2 sensor, your MAF sensor and for vacuum leaks. Could be air intake check your air filter, but probably the O2 sensor. The O2 sensor. located on the exhaust pipe prior to the muffler, looks like a spark plug with a wire that comes off the tip and leads into the wire loom.
It could also be turbocharger seals.
Or, its a diesel engine and they blow a lot of black smoke when revved up or floored.
