I'm not sure about the speedometer, but if the tach is not working a good bet would be the tach filter. With age, a wire often breaks off on these. The wires on the back of the gauge pod could have possibly come loose. Two of the screws that hold the gauge assembly in are hidden behind the air vents, they just pull out at a slight downward angle.
