The engine is running extremely rich. You are getting way too much gasoline into the engine and the engine is not burning all of it. A bad Oxygen sensor will make a car run rich. If a car runs rich for an extended amount of time, the catalytic converters malfunction. You may simply have a cylinder that is not firing but the fuel injector is still supplying fuel to that cylinder. Changed your air filter lately? I don't mean whack it on the pavement either, buy a brand new one.

You might, but that would be wrong! Mercury has a strong magnetic field.
