Ancient Romans invaded and overcame many European countries such as Britain, Austria, Corsica, Crete, Cyprus, Egypt,France, Germany, Greece, Sardinia, Sicily, Spain,Switzerland, Syria and Turkey, and parts of North Africa.
Every county in Europe south of the Rhine, plus England, Egypt, and all the bits of North Africa along the Mediterranean Sea. They also invaded as far as present day Iraq under the emperor Trajan.
They invaded Italy and others. Italy and Egypt were the two recognizable present day countries that the Romans invaded. This is because in the time of the Romans there were no countries as we know them. The Romans invaded territories which later became present day countries. For example, the territory of Gaul. We call it France and let it go at that, but ancient Gaul, was much more than France. In addition to France it consisted of Switzerland, Monaco, northern Italy and parts of the Netherlands. The same conditions prevailed in the mid-east in particular regarding the province of Syria.

They never occupied Ireland although there is a suggestion they were looking at the possibilty of doing so. There are Roman artefacts found around Dublin and the Town of Chester (then Deva) was one of the biggest forts in the whole empire. The only reason for this would be the conquest of Ireland.
