Two countries that come to mind immediately are Iran and Vatican City. Iran is a Muslim theocracy in the Middle East, which means that its supreme leader (the Ayatollah) is also considered the highest religious leader in the country. Vatican City is the home of the Catholic Church, and the entire government is church run.
Although theocracies are usually seen to be present in Moslem countries and in the Vatican, the USA has many attributes of a theocracy:
iran
Algeria & Pakistan
It is a theocracy: a government based upon a deity and religion
Iran is at least one country with a theocratic government.
Vatican City is the only Christian theocracy on earth at this time.

Yes, when religious leaders run a government it is a theocracy. Many countries today are still theocratic.
A government ruled by a religious leader is called a theocracy. In a theocracy, the leader is believed to have divine authority and religious laws often dictate the governance and legal system of the country. This system can be seen in countries like Iran and Vatican City.
Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan etc
One example of a theocracy government is Iran
There is no word for a government that has control of its religion, since any form of government could do that if it wished. You may be thinking of a "theocracy", but that is where the religion controls or is the government.
A theocracy is technically a government ruled by God, and his authorities (the religious leaders) interpreting his word and administrating it for him.An ecclesiocracy is a government in which religious leaders assume a leading role in the state, but do not claim that they are speaking for God.
