There are only 2 landlocked countries within the borders of South Africa, one is Swaziland, the other is Lesotho
Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland. Lesotho is a country inside South Africa. (Totally surrounded by South Africa)
Lesotho is totally enclosed by South Africa. It occupies a high mountain plateau west of the KwaZulu-Natal province.Swaziland is enclosed by two countries, South Africa and Mozambique. It is on the east cost, at the border between South Africa and Mozambique.
Lesotho is entirely encased in South Africa's borders. It is the only country in the world to be inside another country. It has a population of just over 2million and is slightly smaller than Belgium with a total landmass of 30,355km2 (squared). Swaziland appears to indent into South Africa on the North Eastern border but shares a border with Mozambique. With a population of just under 1.2million people, it is slightly smaller than Fiji with a total landmass of 17,364km2 (squared)
There are three countries located within another country's borders: Lesotho, inside South Africa, and San Marino, and Vatican City(both inside Italy).
The Vatican, San Marino, and Lesotho are the only independent, recognized states completely enclaved in other countries. Countries such as Monaco and Swaziland do not apply because Monaco is not surrounded by France since it borders the Mediterranean Sea, and Swaziland, in Southern Africa, borders two countries, South Africa and Mozambique.
There are two independent countries within the boundaries of the Republic of South Africa. These are Lesotho and Swaziland; both of which were British protectorates before gaining independence.
Lesotho is inside of South Africa.
Some examples of countries located inside of other countries include Lesotho, which is completely surrounded by South Africa, and San Marino and Vatican City, which are both enclaved within Italy.
Lesotho
Yes, there are countries called "enclaves", which are located inside another country, or are parts of countries located inside another country. Embassies can be considered enclaves and other good examples are the Kingdom of Lesotho, surrounded by South Africa, the Angolan enclave of Cabinda, in the DRC, and the Armenian territory in Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh.
Ahh...kind of a trick question. While the country of South Africa as a whole borders Mozambique, Botswana, and Zimbabwe (and Namibia in the West?), Two of the *nearest* countries are actually inside South Africa - Lesotho and Swaziland. I think Swaziland has a border on one side with Mozambique, but Lesotho is completely landlocked by S.A.Maybe its a really tricky question and there is some little island nearby that I'm not even thinking of? I almost wanted to say Madagascar but that's off the coast from Mozambique.
The four that I studied and learned about, that neighbor South Africa are Namibia (NW), Botswana(N) ,Mozambique(NE), and Zimbabwe (N/NE) Also included in the four are Swaziland(NE) and Lesotho (inside). But wait, that makes six?
