England tried to establish a colony at Roanoke, Virginia. 115 colonists were left there while ships went back to England to bring back necessary supplies. By the time the next supply ships arrived, three years later, all the settlers had disappeared without leaving any clue to their fate other than the word "CROATOAN" carved into a wooden post.

The Lost Colony came from England?
The colonist were sent to England, but when they came back, no one was there. Instead, there was a carving. It was: CRA.
Please note that the Lost Colony was a colony, so if they survived, there would probably be another colony where it was. Maybe it was Roanoke, I forget and I don't have my social studies book with me. . . Ok maybe they would still be a colony today but since they are all dead. . . Oh well! Go on Google and type in "The Lost Colony" and see what comes up and maybe that will help you learn more about their mysterious dissapearence. Good Luck!!!!!!

Mary Bryant (1765- ?) was a Cornish convict sent to Australia. She became one of the first successful escapees from the fledging Australian penal colony. Australia is a self-contained country, but Mary Bryant would have been sent to the New South Wales colony, as it was the only one established at the time of her internment.

No, convicts were never sent to South Australia. Originally, they were not going to be sent to Western Australia (the Swan River colony) either, but the residents of that colony asked for convict labour - hence the change.
The Lost Colony aka the Roanoke Colony din't become a colony because everybody in there mysteriously disappeared without a trace. The only clue we have is a word carved into a tree. "Croatoan".
