New homes being built today usually have a 200 amp 42 circuit distribution panel installed. Older homes from 20 to 30 years ago had 100 amp 24 circuits installed and this was thought to be a vast improvement over the 60 amp services that it replaced. There are more and higher amperage appliances these days and a 42 circuit panel can get used up very quickly.

If your talking about total current service to homes. Average size house is usually 100 amp service.

What size underground wire do you need from house to building 120 feet away?

The most significant part of the equation is, what will be the maximum current draw? If it's to be a small current draw, for example 40 Amp service (40 amp breaker), you'll use 8AWG wire that's rated for direct burial. Higher current rating will require larger wire. As always, if you have any questions about the proper wiring or how to connect electrical service, contact a local electrical contractor. Understand that improper wiring can result in fire and/or death.

Does satellite Internet use a computer modem?

Satellite Internet does not use a cable modem. The service doesn't use cable or phone wiring in the house. There is a satellite on the property and wiring that brings the service into the house. The provider would supply the necessary peripherals to connect to the Internet.

What current does a house have?

Most houses today have a current rating of about 100 amps. Older homes were originally 60 and I've seen some that were even as low as 30 amps, in rural areas. It's possible to have more, depending on the service level you purchase from your energy provider.

What do you do if your light switch isn't grounded?

Older house wiring didn't always use a ground wire. It's acceptable to continue to use the older wiring, but if you update your wiring, anything that you improve must meet current wiring standards. You can replace a faulty light switch without updating the rest of the wiring, but if you bring the house up to modern standards it will improve the safety standards. If you can afford to upgrade your house wiring, the payoff will be worth it.

Why do the lights flicker in the house?

How do you power a whole house with one generator?

Use a generator with a high enough rating to power the house, of course. Trying to power a house that draws 60A of current with a 10A generator is just never going to work.

Is it legal to buy a house with a 60 amp service?

Wow, never heard of it. Usually 100amp, usually it does not matter what the house has, because it is grandfathered in. But if you ever want to add anything to the service, you might be forced by codes to install a new 100 or 150 amp service, or you might not be allowed to do anything. Call the local power company and ask them if they will upgrade the service to the house for free. Some will. You will need an electrician to put in a new service panel. Could cost a thousand bucks or more depending on the current wiring. A home inspection would also be recommended before buying such an older house.

Can you use a 1200amps service if you have a 1000amps on service?

The current output cannot exceed what is available. 1,000 amp service to a house is rather unreasonable and most likely would not be provided by the utility anyway. 100 amp or 200 amp service would be more likely.

How much rating of voltage and current is required for a house?

That is a wrong question, because the house has to take the voltage, the power station is delivering. Either 120 volts in the USA or 230 volts in Europe. Volts are never consumed.
