∙ 10y agoHidden in the name of the day is a clue! Although initially a church event, the present Mother's Day is a celebration honoring all aspects of motherhood as well as mothers themselves. It is celebrated in many parts of the world under various titles.
In America, Mother's Day began in the early 20th century. No derivation from other mother related celebrations has or was proposed.
