∙ 13y agoThe war ended with effective American victory in October 1781, followed by formal British abandonment of any claims to the United States with the Treaty of Paris. The treaty was signed on September 3, 1783, ratified by Congress on January 14, 1784, and by King George on April 9, 1784. The war was officially over when the ratification documents were exchanged in Paris on May 12, 1784.
