What were Marie Antoinette's interests?

She was liked because during her first reigns as Queen, she made donations to the poor, according to legend. She saved children from dying, and more acts of kindness. She was disliked because she spent more than 1,000 dollars a day. Marie-Antoinette didn't understand how rich she was, and how poor the peasants were. That's what led her to Madame la Guillotine.

What made the lives of Marie Antoinette and Molly Pitcher so different?

Marie versus Molly:Molly Pitcher may have been folklore alone, she was probably a composite of several different people and she may have been Mary Ludwig Hays McCauley from New Jersey. Marie Antoinette was a genuine Austrian Princess who became the Queen of France. Marie Antoinette had been tutored by world class Academics in Science, History, Languages, Music and the Arts. Mary Ludwig was uneducated, a farm laborer who signed her name with an "X".Marie Antoinette was of Noble Birth, well accustomed to wealth and privilege and Mary Ludwig came from the working poor. Both ladies were mothers.Molly Pitcher died at the age of 87. Marie Antoinette was beheaded at 37.Mary Ludwig was said to have cursed like a common soldier. Marie Antoinette was a lady of culture who apologized to her executioner when she accidentally stepped on his foot.An American born citizen of German parents, Mary Ludwig was honored and loved by the soldiers of the American Revolution for the service she rendered in support of the cause. Washington made her a Sergeant, Pennsylvania gave her a pension and in her later life she was called General Molly in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Marie Antoinette was hated with a passion simply because was an Austrian by birth, was wrongfully considered a spendthrift and the followers of the French Revolution sent her to the guillotine. Both women were authentic historical giants.

Where did they find the candy for the film Marie Antoinette?

They had it made, though, in the time Marie Antoinette lived at Versailles, those kind of pastries and candy really wasn't there at all. The only sweet thing available was brioche and only when there were feasts, cakes were made. Madame Campan, Marie Antoientte's first lady in waiting wrote in her memoirs: "Marie-Antoinette usually ate nothing but roast or boiled poultry and drank nothing but water. The only things of which she was particularly fond were her morning coffee and a sort of bread (croissants) to which she had grown accustomed during her childhood in Vienna."

Where did the expression ''Let them eat cake'' originate?

Marie Antoinette is reported to have said 'Qu'ils mangent de la brioche'.When French bakers ran out of bread, they were obliged to sell brioche to the needy at the same price as bread. So that when Marie Antoinette was allegedly told that the peasants had no bread, she merely indicated that they should be able to eat brioche... translated as 'cake'. This would indicate she failed to understand (or had not been told) that there was no flour for making that either. The phrase, meaning 'Let them eat cake', has been misinterpreted over the years, giving the impression that Marie-Antoinette was cruel and uncaring for the common people.Although it is traditionally attributed to Queen Marie Antoinette of France from 1789, it is now doubted that she actually said it, as it is also attributed to the earlier Queen, Marie-Thérèse - about 100 years earlier in a different crisis. And it appears that what she actually said was "let them eat pastry". In 1766, Jean-Jacques Rousseau wrote that he was quoting the famous saying of "a great princess", which was incorrectly attributed to Marie Antoinette. She couldn't have made the statement because, in 1766, she was only 11 years old.
