They adopted the Greek styles for making columns (Doric, Ionian, and Corinthian), Greek medicine and Greek sports. They also adopted and improved on the Greek cranes and ballistas (crossbow-like catapults). Later Roman sculpture was modelled on the Hellenistic sculpture of the Greeks.

Knowing the spiritual and historical arena where these ideas sprung up is important if we're going to understand ourselves. Whether you know it or not the debt you owe the Greeks is enormous.
