On the fox body 89-93 there will be a grey chip on the harness to the distributor usually on the drivers side of it. Pull that out and you can begin timing. With that pulled anywhere between 0* and 12* is safe. You can time up to 17* but higher octane fuel is recommended. After timing, plug in the chip. This chip works as an advance based off the information sent to the ecu from the sensors.
