  • Abuse of police authority for personal organizational gains is called 'police corruption' which can be a variety of acts such as police harassing an innocent person with a 'look the other way' attitude when a person even commits a minor violation of the law; police sticking together and covering up for one of their own kind; hiding evidence or overlooking a crime in a police officer's family; planting drugs on an innocent person (generally carried out by two police officers if they do not happen to like a certain person); police involved in drug trafficking; not reading the person their rights before arrest; not providing a lawyer to be present before questioning; sexual harassment of a female police officer or any woman; rape (including blackmailing prostitutes ... if the prostitute provides them with a sexual favor then the police will not arrest her); accepting money in exchange for police services or protection; embezzlement; fraud; extortion and felony crimes. Police corruption also happens in prisons and jails. A person who is innocent and feels they are harassed by the police can form a complaint to the Department of Justice.
