In his young adulthood, Washington was a surveyor and served as a British officer in the French and Indian War. He inherited a plantation from his father which he improved. He also became a major whiskey distiller. He was active in the independence movement, served as a Virginia delegate in the various congresses and was Commander-in-chief of Colonial military forces during the War for Independence.

George Washington, was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Washington lived a very exciting and successful life.

In 1749, George Washington became the official surveyor for Culpeper County, Virginia. During the French and Indian War he served with the rank of colonel.

From 1755 to 1758, Washington commanded Virginia's frontier troops as a colonel.

In 1774, Washington was elected and served as a delegate to the First Continental Congress. In 1775, he also served again in the Second Continental Congress.

On June 15, 1775, George Washington was elected as the commander in chief of the Continental Army. On May 25, 1787, George Washington was elected the first President of the United States. He would be reelected to a second term in 1792.
